A new high school basketball season is coming, and for Laramie Lady Plainsmen, they have started again.

For the second year in a row, Laramie has a new head coach. After Nick Darling left after working on the program for a year, Terrance Reese was hired during the off-season.

Lady Plainsmen had a 7-12 record last season. They lead 1-5 in the conference game. LHS did not qualify for the state championship because they lost to the eventual state champion Cheyenne Eastern in Cheyenne's sub-regional competition.

Reese said that before the start of the season, training has been going well.

"Girls are very energetic to them. They come every day to prepare for work, which is of course much easier for me. We can only work on X and O. You don’t have to direct its hard work or hard work, so this is An exciting thing."

Reese added that the "support" of his team already exists.

"We are becoming a team, and I think this is important to our community and team culture, and that is to be a team. This is the main focus, getting together and playing together."

Seniors Morgann Jensen and Teagan Bluemel and David Settle of KOWB talked about the upcoming season and some interesting items of the basketball season.

Jensen and Bluemel were two of the team's six response champions last season. Three starters came back, and two players with starter experience.

Reese wants to rely on his veterans because he said they want to participate in the game.

"We want to go up and down (court). We will hunt the team and we will make it a dogfight. We want to make sure that they (our opponents) remember to fight Laramie."

LHS kicked off its season at Casper's Oil City Tip-off. The Lady Plainsmen will face the No. 4 Filly in Natrona County at 6pm on Thursday, and then play against Green River at the NCHS at 3pm on Friday. Then on Saturday, Laramie will face Rock Springs at Kelly Walsh High School at 10:30 am.

Reese expects pressure from all three of their opponents this weekend.

"They like to put pressure on the ball, so we have to be responsible for the ball; we value the possession of basketball."

He felt that breaking the press would be the key, and then executed at halftime.

Reese hopes to see his team participate in this season's games.

"In the final analysis, this is a big thing. This is the competition we have always emphasized. Not only physical fitness, but also smart games. Take care of basketball, but also the first person on the basketball court. This is not just 1,000%, become Crazy. This is about making smart decisions with basketball. This is about taking care of basketball. This is about rebounding. All these little things are competition for us, so we feel that if we do these things, the scoreboard will Take care of it yourself."

Laramie wants to reverse the trend of missing the state championships in the past four years.

KOWB will broadcast all Laramie women's games in Casper on radio (AM 1290) and KOWB Mobile (app). You can also listen online or through smart speakers. Reporting begins 30 minutes before the start of the game. David Settle returned for his 23rd season as the spokesperson for LHS basketball on KOWB.
